Plumpton's one-mile jumps course holds a special place in many people's hearts. Many even refer to it as a “hidden gem” of the world of horse racing. However, how did it get this type of reputation? Small courses like this either live or die, and this has been running for over 100 years, in contrast to other South-Eastern England venues like Folkestone and Wye, which have disappeared over the years.

At Plumpton, we first offer cheaper alternatives to purchasing tickets, either via advance tickets booked online or over the phone. Alongside this, we invite groups of six or more people, giving them an extra discount if they book all at once.
The course is also part of the Tickets for Troops scheme. As a result, anyone who is a member of the British Armed Forces gets free entry to the site.
Those who are members of the club receive a free-ticket offer for friends and family and a refer-a-member discount. These clubs and pricing strategies explain how we are able to fill the stands. We invite large groups, referrals, and retention all in one.

Success breeds success, the course having the honour of hosting many well-known names on the premises.
Bob Champion’s first winner, Altercation, came at Plumpton in 1968, and he now has a race day in his name; the Queen Mother’s first winner at the track was Super Fox in 1963; Tony McCoy chose nowhere grander for his 3,000th winner in 2009.
Gary Moore passed 200 Plumpton-trained winners in 2022; Tom Cannon reached 100 Plumpton winners in 2025; and the horse Joker Jack ran 34 of his 99 races on this very circuit.
Therefore, it’s not just a course that makes arriving easy. It’s a course that has provided entertainment to fans for countless years and allowed its fans to identify with their heroes - human and equine alike.
Plumpton’s approach to getting people through the door is similar to many other sectors. The Picturehouse cinema memberships follow a similar structure. Upon joining, members get a free ticket, 10% off food and drink, and a 14-day refund if required. It's all about being inclusive and building loyalty.
English Heritage memberships are exactly the same. For £84 a year, members get entry into 400+ sites, free parking for many of them, and free or reduced entry costs to events.
This type of offer has even been found in the entertainment industry. Bingo sites offer bingo offers for new players; for example, players who spend £10 can get a £30 bonus.
Every industry follows a similar but very different approach- they give a reason for people to engage with them.
Advance online booking is already a discounted route that works well here at Plumpton. Because of this, the direction looks digital rather than physical.
Memberships are an important model for us. These are the dedicated fans who don’t just come once, but many times over the course of their memberships.
They are also part of the referral programme, and if anything, they’re the greatest advocates when it comes to the course.
