Meet the Team

Meet the wonderful full time team that make Plumpton what it is. We are so grateful to also have an incredible group of casual and part time staff, who we could not race without!

My favourite thing about Plumpton is that even on our smaller racedays it still manages to create a really warm, welcoming atmosphere, helped by our dedicated and knowledgeable regulars who genuinely love their racing. My favourite raceday has to be Christmas Jumper Raceday, not so much for the knitwear, but because it feels like Christmas is properly on the horizon, with a relaxed yet lively crowd getting into the festive spirit with friends, family, and colleagues. Outside of work, I’m usually acting as an unpaid taxi driver for two teenage boys, splitting my time between Pulborough Rugby Club, following Brighton home and away, and squeezing in as much racing as possible, with Cheltenham in March firmly in the diary. There is no such thing as a favourite karaoke song, but I can confidently belt out most Albion chants home or away!

Clerk of the Course

Marcus Waters

What I love most about Plumpton is its close-knit, intimate feel and the knowledgeable racing crowd that makes every raceday special. My favourite fixture is the Early November Raceday, it always has a great atmosphere. In my spare time, I enjoy horse riding and playing cricket. And if there’s a karaoke night, my go-to song is Mr Brightside!

My favourite thing about Plumpton is how close you are to the action...there’s nothing quite like it. My favourite raceday is the Season Finale, which always ends the season on a high. Outside of racing, I enjoy playing cricket. And when it comes to karaoke, you’ll find me belting out Livin’ On a Prayer!

My favourite thing about Plumpton is the stunning surroundings we’re lucky to work in, and the fact that we get to create exciting racedays as a small but passionate team at our much-loved little track. My favourite raceday has to be the Christmas Raceday - it always has such a great buzz. When it comes to hobbies, I’d say socialising, shopping, and drinking cocktails (though if that doesn’t count, we can go with running!). And my go-to karaoke song? Has to be Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis! (Can you tell she just went to go see them live?)

My favourite thing about Plumpton has to be the beautiful views, our lovely customers, and the fantastic team I get to work with. I always look forward to our Easter Racedays, it’s such a fun (albeit exhausting) weekend. Outside of work, I enjoy riding my beautiful dressage horse Elsa. And when it comes to karaoke, it’s I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys every time!

What I love most about Plumpton is its beautiful location and how close you can get to the horses on a raceday, it really makes the experience special. My favourite raceday is Sussex Day, which always stands out. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, going to the theatre, and spending time with my cats. I don’t usually do karaoke, but if I had to pick a song, it would be Hi Ho Silver Lining by Jeff Beck!

Grounds Team 2025

Grounds Team

Led by our Clerk of the Course/Head Groundsperson, Marcus Waters (above), and Assistant Head Groundsperson Craig French, with support from Ross Craig, Dan Starnes and Mac Cornford, our Grounds Team plays a crucial role in making every raceday happen. From preparing and maintaining the track and fences to looking after the lawns, stable yard and parade ring, they work passionatly all year round and we are lucky to have them.

Chief Office Dog

Herbie Taylor

What Herbie loves most about Plumpton is walkies at lunchtime with his mum, Emily and Rebecca, chasing balls down the back straight.

He loves begging for food and getting titbits from all the office staff.

He is the ultimate good boy.
