Monday 10th February - Winter Jumps Raceday
In a week where jumps racing was thin on the ground courtesy of Storm Ciara it was tremendous to see a well-contested card in East Sussex and local trainer Zoe Davison had plenty of reasons to be cheerful as stable star Finnegan's Garden notched up his third win of the season, and fourth at Plumpton, in the Crystal Services Commercial And Domestic Cleaning Handicap Chase. The eleven-year-old was one of just two finishers and came clear under regular pilot Page Fuller.
Colorado Doc became the final qualifier in our Cheltenham Festival Bonus Series as he jumped his rivals into the ground in the SW Catering Chase for David and Connor Brace. It was an impressive start to life in handicaps from the prolific point winner, though he probably won't be high enough in the weights to get a run in the listed novice handicap at the Festival.
Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls improved his impressive strike-rate at Plumpton this season as Calva d'Auge landed a second course success in the That Friday-Ad Feeling Novices' Hurdle. He was well backed under a double penalty and had things swen up on the home turn under Harry Cobden.
Hawthorn Cottage continued her good form for Amy Murphy with victory in the Extech Cloud - Humanising It Handicap Hurdle under Lucy Barry. The improving mare was following up victory at Doncaster and showed plenty of determination from the front.
Age of Wisdom, re-united with Niall Houlihan, resumed winning ways for Gary Moore in the Strong Flavours Catering Handicap Hurdle. The seven-year-old was anything but an armchair ride for his young jockey but came clear in good style. He could win again at Plumpton this season.
Amlovi opened her account for Adrian Wintle in the Sky Sports Racing Mares' Handicap Hurdle, coping with the conditions well to make Ben Poste's only ride of the day a successful one.
