Wednesday 16th January - Timeform Raceday
Baddesley Knight proved all class as he returned to the scene of his bumper win to open his account over jumps in the Book For Plumpton's Easter Festival Now! Novices' Hurdle. Building on the red-hot form of the Sandown event won by I Can't Explain, Chris Gordon's charge became the fifth next-time-out winner from that race with a comfortable success under Tom Cannon. There is a lot more to come from this scopey six-year-old, not least when he goes over fences.
Uhlan Bute was a ready winner in the feature Download The Free Timeform App Veterans' Handicap Chase for Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. Continuing rainfall made it hard work for the veterans and it paid to be handy, with Uhlan Bute travelling well from the front throughout.
Potters Hedger pulled out further improvement to make it two wins for the season in the Free Alerts With My Timeform Tracker Handicap Hurdle, defying top-weight in the process under Jack Quinlan for Lucy Wadham. He relished the test and should make his presence felt again in similar events.
Very Live ended a losing run stretching back almost three years for Paul Webber in the Follow Smart Stats Live At timeform.com Handicap Chase, keeping on dourly under Gavin Sheehan who enjoyed a double on the day.
Debestyman made his fourth start at Plumpton a successful one for Suzi Smith under the Cork-born rider in the Strong Flavours Catering Novices' Hurdle. The point winner was given a patient ride and came through with a strong run in the straight to get on top. It had the look of a good race, with the runner-up and third, Manning Estate and Coastal Drift, likely to be of interest when contesting staying handicaps, while the fourth home, Reallyradical, shaped really well first time up under Rules for Chris Gordon. Expect to see him back at Plumpton before long.
Generous Jack opened his account over hurdles in the SW Catering Handicap Hurdle for Suzi Best and Daryl Jacob.
