Sunday 22nd September - Core Spreads Family Raceday

Young Wolf ran out the winner of the feature Friends & Family Remembering Norman Sharpe Handicap Hurdle as Plumpton's new season got underway. Jonjo O'Neill's charge, a full-brother to the ill-fated Neon Wolf, who looked a horse of such promise, made all under Jonjo O'Neill Jr, overcoming mistakes and asserting on the run in from top-weight Sizing Granite. He'll make a good chaser in time.

Neil King's Gateway To Europe was the only other successful favourite on the card, landing the opening Core Spreads Novices' Hurdle. The five-year-old jumped a lot better than his main market rival Archimento under what is becoming a trademark excellent front-running ride at Plumpton from Bryony Frost.

Gary Moore didn't have to wait long for his first winner as Zamperini quickened clear from Cubswin in the Core Spreads Handicap Hurdle. The seven-year-old is now two from two at Plumpton and there should be more to come from him.

Chill In The Wood made a successful return from ten months off after a breathing operation in the Andrew "Super Wack" Jackson Memorial Handicap Chase. Success looked unlikely for the Dominic Ffrench Davis-trained mare as she was held in third turning for home, but her stamina kicked in and she swooped past her fading rivals under Mark Grant.

Limelighter was another surprise winner in the Core Spreads Juvenile Hurdle under Marc Goldstein. Sheena West's charge came to the fore after market leaders Local Affair and Highway To Success pulled their chances away.

Noble Saffron gave the in-form David Brigwater team another victory in the Core Spreads Novices' Handicap Chase, prevailing from a stone out of the weights with a solid round of jumping on his first start over fences. He was a 250th career winner for jockey Brendan Powell and there could be more to come from the four-year-old.

Magen's Moon, owned, ridden and trained by Phil York, recorded a first success over jumps in the Core Spreads Handicap Hurdle.

The Haywards Heath Lions Mascot Race for the Children's Trust, run in memory of Jenny Smith, was won by Haydon The Womble representing AFC Wimbledon.
