Monday 21st October - Bob Champion Cancer Trust Charity Raceday
War Lord was a gutsy winner of the Geoffrey Budd Partnership Maiden Hurdle for Colin Tizzard and Harry Cobden. The four-year-old was following in the footsteps of the yard's useful jumper White Moon in making a successful start over timber and kept on well. There will be more to come from him and a step up to two and a half miles will suit.
Wenceslaus won on the card for the second year running in the Nick Embiricos Memorial 2019 Handicap Chase. David Bridgwater's charge put in a solid round of jumping under Tom Cannon and drew clear for a six-length success.
Plumpton is becoming a happy hunting ground for owner, trainer and jockey Phil York and his Magen's Moon followed up last month's victory at the course in the Onethreefivenotout Novices' Handicap Hurdle, fending off the challenge of the well-backed Coby Nine. There are plenty of suitable races upcoming at Plumpton for the thriving mare, so expect to see her back here and the hat-trick is a real possibility.
Legal Eyes was left clear in the last as he made a successful start over fences for Ben Pauling and Nico de Boinville in the 'Spirit Of Love' Memorial Chase. The two runners with previous chasing experience both failed to complete, and although Legal Eyes was a rather fortunate winner it was still a sound start on which he can build.
Shambra came out on top in a thrilling three-way finish to the SIS Supports Bob Champion Cancer Trust Handicap Hurdle. Lucy Wadham's mare fought off challenges from Dan Mcgrue and Rosy World under a good ride from Maxime Tissier.
Uallrightharry made a successful return in the Summertree Novices' Handicap Chase. He relished the test as he followed up his Fontwell March win under Brendan Powell and looks the type who will make his mark in the regional Nationals in time, perhaps the Sussex National back at Plumpton, a race his trainer Linda Jewell won in 2015 with Itoldyou.
Jonjoela lost her maiden status on her 17th start over hurdles but first for the red-hot Alex Hales yard in the concluding Josh Gifford Memorial Mares' Handicap Hurdle. The mare never saw another rival as she made all under Harry Bannister and should win again.
Mystic Dreamer and Alfie Draper won the Hugo's Other Horse Shetland Pony Derby.
