The Chris Gordon-trained Commanche Red landed the feature Handicap Hurdle at last year's Sussex Raceday
WHAT'S GOING ON
We are proud to be part of the Sussex community and this day aims to showcase many of the things that makes the county so great with a whole host of activities, demonstrations and entertainment from the local area to accompany an exciting seven-race card. The day will be one to remember as we host the inaugural Lunch with the Moores in the Mayo Wynne Baxter Marquee Restaurant - more on that further down!
Sussex Falconry will be here showing off their best birds to Plumpton racegoers and we've also got live music courtesy of Uptown Buskers and plenty of children's entertainment across the afternoon. Also making a return is the Sussex Farmers Market, so make sure you head over to their stalls during the afternoon and take a look at the brilliant local products they have to offer.
Onto the action on the track and we have £72.6k in prize-money to be won across the seven races. Headlining the card is the Class 3 Handicap Hurdle over a distance of 2m4½f. Won last year by the impressive Commanche Red for the Chris Gordon yard, a prize pot of £16k should ensure another competitive affair this April.
Come and enjoy a great day of racing while taking in what this brilliant county has to offer.
Please note there is some engineering works on the railway line this Sunday so a replacement bus service will be in operation on some of your journey from both London (from Three Bridges) and Eastbourne (from Lewes) travelling to Plumpton. Please refer to https://www.nationalrail.co.uk for timing information and allow some extra time for your journey.
There is ample parking at Plumpton for cars (all of which is free) and if travelling from Brighton, we do offer a return minibus service that departs from Brighton Train Station 1 hour 30 minutes before the first race. The cost is £8 and is subject to availability, which is limited and must be booked in advance.
LUNCH WITH THE MOORES
It is fitting that we share the Sussex Raceday with the county's most successful horse racing operation and we are delighted to host a Lunch with the Moores for the first time in the Mayo Wynne Baxter Marquee Restaurant. To raise money and awareness for the Sussex Cancer Fund and West Sussex Breast Care Centre, you can enjoy a two-course lunch whilst learning about the lives of this racing family dynasty. As well as some fascinating stories, they will also offer their expert advice on the upcoming Aintree Grand National Festival.
Hosted by racing broadcaster Mike Cattermole, there will be an auction, silent auction and raffle to raise yet further money for this great Charity that effects so many of us.
Tickets cost £80 per person, or £750 per table of ten, with each ticket sale directly supporting the Sussex Cancer Fund. Admission and a racecard are included in the package alongside the two-course lunch and an afternoon spent with the Moore family.
If you can't make it to Sussex Raceday on Sunday, you can still support the Sussex Cancer Fund by visiting the following Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/prandsuscancerfund.
FOOD & DRINK
There is a lovely selection of local Sussex drinks available from our three racecourse bars and bean to cup coffee from the Southdown Stand, which also serves deli-style food. There are catering concessions serving pizzas, burgers and tacos behind the grandstands for you to enjoy, while pies and light refreshments can be purchased from the Paddock Bar and Chasers Bar.
Why not enjoy the action in style by joining us in one of our raceday suites? There are several hospitality options at Plumpton to suit your requirements. You can book a private box and enjoy a fine dining experience with a view over the home straight. Or take a seat in our premier dining option - the Paddock Restaurant - which is perfectly situated overlooking the parade ring and opposite the finishing post.
