2:15 – Sky Sports Racing Maiden Hurdle
Saligo Boy has finished second on his last three starts and will aim to get off the mark over hurdles in this two-mile contest for Gary and Jamie Moore. It will be his third run at Plumpton after finishing runner-up to the smart Alto Alto over course and distance on April 3rd and connections will hope it’s third time lucky for the four-year-old. Cityzen Serg has some handy back form on the flat and makes his hurdles debut in this for Max Young and James Best, with a first-time hood applied. Sublime Heights finished second to the highly-rated Gin Coco at Fontwell last time out and could fare better here.
2:50 – Extech Cloud – Humanising It Novices’ Handicap Chase
Uberman looks a solid option in this 2m1f Handicap Chase for Katharine Davis and 7lb claimer Joe Anderson. He finished second to Ballinsker – beaten just a length – here on March 14th and Ballinsker subsequently boosted that form with a convincing 12-length win at Chepstow. Uberman has only been raised 3lbs for that last-time-out effort, while Ballinsker is now rated 13lb higher than his chase mark of 107 that day. Richie Valentine may give Uberman the most to think about on his first start since December. His two career wins both came on Good ground and he should appreciate Sunday’s conditions. The Christian Williams-trained Duneomeno won on his sole chase appearance at Ludlow in February and will bid to keep his unbeaten record over fences intact under Jack Tudor.
3:25 – William Hill Extra Places Every Day Novices’ Handicap Hurdle
Two last-time-out Plumpton winners go to post in this Class 3 Novices’ Handicap Hurdle over 2m4½f. The Colin Tizzard-trained Bourbali bolted up in our feature contest on April 3rd over this distance, while Unanswered Prayers won a tight contest for Chris Gordon and Tom Cannon on March 14th. Unanswered Prayers makes his handicap debut in this and could prove to be a fair bit better than his mark of 125 in the future. Aggagio bids for a hat-trick of wins for Gary and Jamie Moore after recent successes at Fontwell and Hereford, and Small Bad Bob will need to bounce back from a couple of recent unplaced efforts at Ascot and Kempton.
4:00 – Triple A Event Security Handicap Chase
The Cathal Don – a two-time winner in Ireland and half-brother to the Nick Gifford-trained The Mighty Don – had a chase rating of 137 after joining Seamus Mullins’ yard from Henry De Bromhead last autumn but has disappointed in the five starts he’s made for the stable so far. As a result the six-year-old has dropped down to a mark of 111 and just sneaks into this Class 4 (0-110) contest. Course and distance winner Uallrightharry will bid to break a sequence of seconds having found one too good for him on each of his last three starts. The Christian Williams-trained Jony Max should also be competitive again after a solid season that has seen him return one win, three seconds and one third from five starts.
4:35 – Betting.Bet Sussex Champion Hurdle
Grade 2-winning novice hurdler Aucunrisque headlines the field of six in this £50,000 feature for Chris Gordon and Harry Cobden. Owned by Goodwin Racing, the classy six-year-old was impressive when landing the Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle at Kempton in February and he will be fancied by many to go close in this, despite the tight turnaround from finishing fourth behind Jonbon in the Grade 1 Top Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree on April 8th. The Stevie Fisher-owned Mark Of Gold – a two-time winner at Plumpton this season – would be a popular winner of the contest for Gary Moore, who is yet to get his hands on the Sussex Champion Hurdle trophy. Midnights Legacy has some very useful flat form to his name and has transferred that to hurdles, winning twice this season at Plumpton and Ludlow, and a mark of 125 may underestimate his talents. Olly Murphy won this contest in 2019 with Fiesole and he will bid to regain the trophy with four-year-old Swinging London, who was sixth in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last month.
5:10 – William Hill Pick Your Places Handicap Chase
A field of nine go to post for this competitive 2m3½f 0-100 Chase and Richidish will aim to build on his 18-length demolition job at Fontwell over the same trip earlier this month. He has been raised 10lbs for that win which may not be enough to stop him going in again. The Christian Williams-trained Loup De Maulde finished a close second over course and distance on April 3rd and is likely to hit the frame again, while three-time course winner En Coeur finished third in the same race to continue his consistent season. He was dropped 1lb for that run and it is hard to see him being beaten too far in this.
5:45 – Strong Flavours Catering Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle
It is worth shopping around for best prices and place terms for our final race of the day, with some bookmakers paying an additional fourth place for this 12-runner contest over 2m4½f. Fred Bear was runner-up to the impressive Hiway One O Three over course and distance on April 3rd and should go close again off the same mark. Age Of Wisdom drops down in trip after two second-placed efforts over 3m 2f the last twice and is ridden by 3lb claimer Niall Houlihan, who also rode him to victory here in February 2020.
