Who's flying the flag for Plumpton at Cheltenham this year?

Prior to the biggest week of the year in the jumping world of racing, we thought we’d let you know about some of the entries for the Cheltenham Festival who you’ve seen at Plumpton this season. As a breeding ground for good novices (showcased last year by grade 1 winners Kalashnikov, Pentland Hills, and Highway One O Two winning a grade 2 already this season), there could be some exciting horses flying the flag for Plumpton.

Tuesday 10th March

The race to focus on here is the 4.50pm – the Northern Trust Company Handicap Chase over 2m 4f. Of the 72 entries, 6 have run at Plumpton this season including 3 of our Bonus Series Winners – Champagne Court, Highest Sun and De Plotting Shed and so a victory in this race could net their connections £60k! The other 3 horses are My Way, Legal Eyes and Mercy Mercy Me. There are also multiple entries in the National Hunt Cup including the Sussex National Winner Christmas In April, who has also now won the Devon National – so we know he’ll stay! Mercy Mercy Me also has an entry in this race. The Ultima Handicap Chase also has several entries in Who Dares Wins, Virginia Chick and we even show an entry in the Grade 1 Supreme Novices’ by Kid Commando.

Cheltenham Tuesday entries

Wednesday 11th March

Our Bonus Series winner from December heads the entries on the 11th, with Highest Sun holding an entry in the RSA Novices’ Chase as well as the unlucky Who Dares Wins (who backed up his Plumpton second with a win at Kempton in a Grade 2!). Air Horse One and Cat Tiger hold entries in the ever-competitive Coral Cup which guarantees itself a maximum field of 26, with 148 entries! Cat Tiger and Kid Commando also hold entries in the Ballymore Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) and Fraser Island in the Boodles Juvenile Race (the Fred Winter).

Cheltenham Thursday entries

Thursday 12th March

We could yet see a Bonus Series Winner on the third day of the Festival as Highest Sun’s third entry is in the Marsh Novices’ Chase, and Who Dares Wins also holds his 3rd entry in the same race. Over To Sam was an impressive winner on the re-arranged 20th January fixture and both he and Mercy Mercy Me have entries in the 3m 2f Kim Muir, alongside Cat Tiger. Diablo De Rouhet (Pertemps) and Legal Eyes (Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stables Plate) also have entries on the 12th.

Friday 13th March

Arguably, the most impressive Bonus Series Winner of the 2019/20 season was Lisp and his only entry is in the festival’s penultimate race – the Grand Annual, for which he is joint favourite at between 8 and 10/1. The grade 1 Albert Bartlett could see Cat Tiger take up his fourth entry and the final race of the festival (Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle) holds two Plumpton entries for Air Horse One and interestingly for Champagne Court, who wouldn’t get his bonus as this is a hurdle race should he win!

(Please note these are entries and so there is no guarantee of them running just yet, and horses will have multiple entries). Make sure you start the Festival week in style and join us on Monday 9th March for the Anglo – Irish Raceday, where we will have our own Cheltenham Preview Panel before racing hosted by Colin Brown!
